I have just taken over the Mantella studbook as first set up by the European Studbook Foundation (ESF). This studbook is generally aimed at being within Europe, however people wanting to join the studbook in other areas of the globe may feel free to do so.
The idea of this studbook is to try to maintain genetic integrity by advising where new bloodlines may be moved to and from. The legal rights of these animals will remain with the owner and at the end of the day where they are moved to and how they are moved is a decision which is made by the animals owner. My role as studdbook keeper is to advise you where you may be able to acquire new bloodlines (and even new species) or where you could move some of your surplus animals to. For more information on the role of the ESF and where the participants of the studbooks come in please check their website at European Studbook Foundation or contact me. I am looking for participants with any species of Mantella as they are currently all setup in the one studbook. However I am already running each species as if it were a seperate studbook so that in the future when we have enough participants, each species may be allocated its own studbook. We hope to be able to maintain a good genetic variety in captivity through the use of this studbook, to allow us to aid with in situ conservation projects in the future to ensure that this species increases and maintains sucess in the wild. Thanks Markus Wilder |

For new registration for each animal the keeper has to fill in one of these forms; http://studbooks.org/forms/standardF...ewSpecimen.doc which can be saved and e-mailed direct to myself, on the email address which can be found in the studbooks overview section of www.studbooks.org under the Mantella stubook.
The form covers the keepers general personal information (which will be kept confidential and never passed on to other studbook members unless that person explicitly askes to have any details passed on to some one interested in acquiring a new animal). Furthermore it then goes in to collection information about the animal itself inlcuing origin, genetic faults, parents, birth date, breeding etc. If any help is required with filling in the form please feel free to contact me. This was originally already a fully functioning studbook but sadly we cannot track down the original studbook keeper to pass over the original studbook files, so we are hoping to build up the participants as much as possible again. Hope that has been useful, but as always just ask if there is anything else I have not covered yet. |

Thank you very much for your interest in signing your animals up to the studbook it is very much appreciated and I look forward to recieving those forms.
If you look in the forms section there is also an online forms bit at the bottom of the page which I forgot to mention in my last reply, which is a much easier way of getting the information to myself. Richard doesn't have anything to do with it anymore, I was told that he left the studbook, and we were sadly unable to get hold of him for the original studbook information so we started it from scratch, which is a shame, but it is starting to come together fairly quickly now. |

Hi there guys,
I am Richard Berridge's sister-in-law! He is still very much involved with Mantellas, but has got married and is expecting his first baby with his new wife, so has been a bit tied up! We hope one of you can help us, actually. Richard is desperately in the market for some mantella laevigata - do any of you know where/who he can get some from? I can put you in direct contact with him if necessary. Regards Rebecca Berridge |
