Default Think my Rankins have been at "it"....

Havent posted on here in an age :(

But anyways, think me and the misses caught our two rankins at it at the weekend for the first time. There around 2yrs old now.

Questions are as follows:

Nest box - size? (length by width by depth), suitable nest box substrate etc
Incubation - Suitable type of incubator, recommended temp & humidity etc

How long am I looking at before I need to put the nest box in the viv, and how long will it be before she lays?

Sorry for all the questions, very nervous and excited Grandad here :)

Welcome back! :D
I use a plastic box for egg laying about 18"x15" with a hole cut at one end in this i put a mixture of sand/top soil dampened down about 8" deep.
If you think they are mating i would put the egg box in now so she gets used to it and also because they may have been mating a few weeks ago and you just missed it. You will notice her fill out and will be able to fill the eggs in her when she is about to lay. Cant recommend a good incubator as i allways convert my own but if you incubate the eggs at 84 they will hatch in about 45 to 50 days.
Good luck!
Have aread of this too:

Hey mate.
I cant really offer any advice as this is our first years breeding, have 21 eggs in the incubator but its early days.
I do however just wana say "good job and Good luck"

I can say though that I have a hovabator...
it doesnt compare to my own homemade incubator that just consited of a poly box, grill rack, heat mat and stat...and i had only 1 degree variation with this whereas im getting more with the hovabator whatever I do, its lid is a pain, its heating element is side heavy and awkward. [and im using a seperate habistat to control it as i had heard its internan stat was pants]
Id sugest whatever you can get or build...where you can get a steady temp holding 24/7 with minimal fuss..then you use that, whatever works for you.
Vermiculite/water ratio again im new too so wont advise but obviously you will need soem form of incubation medium and plastic tubs and stuff aswell but that goes without saying.

Hope you have a success with it dude.
All the best.
