I will totally understand if you think its a duff idea Scott, but how about a section for outdoor vivariums ? There are people across the world that are doing this including many in UK/Germany/Holland etc.

It would take a while for people who are into outdoor vivs to find out about the new section if it were created. But we won't know how popular it would be till it was tried. I admit I am not sure myself if it would be popular enough or not. But it would be another thing in my opinion that would make this forum better than the other one !!!

Why not use the viv section that is here and if your threads and others etc get enough interest and posts then a seperate section maybe considered..

I think its a critical mass issue. If there isn't a dedicated section then it will be difficult to get alot of those interested in this area to get involved. I certainly can recommend plenty of people to this forum if it had the outdoor viv section. But I have to admit it would be at the very least slow to get going. The outdoor viv forum does not alert members of replies to threads, so the forum is dying. Its a real shame because there are a lot of people out there that are more interested in say European tree frogs being kept in planted greenhouses, than chilli-stinger ball pythons being kept in rack systems.

Hi Mark,
I'm happy to give it a go, outdoor vivariums are pretty specific so certainly suited to their own section. If you help by getting the ball rolling and post up some info and shots of yours. This section may come in time for me to make a start on some outdoor enclosures for this summer. |

Blimey.
That was quick. I was going to suggest it was probably a bad idea after all, but instead I have just e-mailed 8 people I know who have an interest in this area (and asked them to e-mail others they know). I hope it works thanks Scott. |

Personally, I think that it`s a fantastic idea and an area of the forum that will be greatly appreciated by a section of the herp keeping community that has little opportunity to access information regarding other people`s set ups. I know that Scott will agree with me when I say that the pooling of knowledge is exactly what this forum is about.
Whilst many more popular areas of the hobby which are represented on the forum such as ball pythons are extremely active, this section obviously wont be so busy. It`s up to us therefore to contribute and bring it to life. Although it is unlikely that it will become anywhere near so busy as other sections, it could prove very useful. Thanks to Mark for suggesting it and to Scott for setting it up. Miqe, did you ever get that hyla aborea viv built? Last edited by Peter Parrot; 25-05-2009 at 07:39 PM. |
