there is a pet shop here where i live that buys in puppies and kittens from the public and sells them on. i dont agree with this but i think if the pet shop had an area eg kennels, then i dont see the problem, but everything about that breed of dog should be in a book that comes with the dog and home checks should be done too. i bought an english mastive a while ago and was not informed about the size the dog gets too, i didnt have the internet then, the dog ate more than my family and cost far to much for me to afford at the time so i gave her to a great home. more information should be given about all animals. more so reptiles tho, as some people are advised wrongly on how to keep that reptile 'they' picked and where not advised about getting one for thier level of knowledge

maybe, but the people selling them, be it dogs, cats, budgies or reptiles should be able to give the correct information. AND checkout the person buying them. up here selling puppies and kittens was banned years ago. and it could only be for the good of the animals. |

only illegal if they are unlicensed for kittens, next time you are in there have a look at their pet shop licence that should be displayed on the wall and if it doesnt mention kittens then they are not licensed to sell them, if it states kittens and a number that means how many kittens they are allowed to have on sale. Although they may be in the process of obtaining a reissue to show kittens it could be in the post. But as a general answer No it is not illegal to sell kittens or puppies, its just that after years of being brainwashed by animal rights groups into believing its unacceptable to buy a cat or dog in this manner they are rarely seen for sale in pet shops nowadays.

I dont see how a local council can stop any pet shop selling reptiles ? I was under the impression that the laws regarding pet shops are made by parliament & its up to the councils to enforce these laws when needed & not make their own up as they go.
A pet shop licence is exactly that & as far as i remember (from when i had my licence) a licence to sell pets & the local council cant decide on what can and cant be sold as long as the shop conforms to the licence......is this right ??? Glad i dont live in north hertfordshire...id be lobbing my local MP !!...lol The only thing i disagree with on the pet shop licence is the DWA stuff, i think this should be a seperate licence. |

Although i agree that in principle its wrong for the owner of a pet shop (that knows zero about reptiles) to sell them just because its another avenue to increase profits, but that can apply to all pets ...they could sell birds & know nothing about them too.
Top marks to chris & the FBH for sticking up for the reptile hobby ;-) max 5 mins to edit !!..
