Some years ago the Tax authorises had a field day with bird breeders, they monitored their adverts for over 12 months then sent some a polite warning advising them that if they persisted they would face a Tax investigation and would get a Tax bill, with some of the prices l've seen online l would be very surprised if this has not already happened or will in the near future.
As regard to VAT it depends on how they are registered for VAT,if they are registered by name everything they sell is subject to VAT and remember the Tax and VAT authorises can and do retro bill you for years with an estimate that you would have to prove was or is wrong.

i think the show issue in this country is to do with the laws on selling animals and nothing to do with the IHS rules for the show,.
In the UK it is illegal to sell"pets" at market ( farm animals are different as they are not classed as pets.
However it is legal for hobbyist breeders if they are members of a club or society to sell excess or surplus stock at "meetings". Therefore if you have a PSL or are vat registered you are unlikely to be just a hobbyist breeder.

Someone please correct me if im wrong!

The biggest problem we have right now in this country with regard to the hobby is that as the law stands our reptile (shows) are illegal, the IHS and FBH play with the law and try to say that the rep shows are breeders meeting therefore are legal, big problem nu-1 is that you only have to look at the forums to see how people veiw them and see these shows-just look at any forum the general public and hobbyist see them as animal markets
problem nu-2 please can anyone explain how any breeders meeting can attract more people than breeders egs IHS about 800 members-- Donny over 4000 entrants!then look at the forums and see all the threds about (what l got at Donny.
problem nu-3 No Business can trade at shows, this really insults anybody's intelligence, again look at the forums and see peoples, hobbyist web sites forum pages, there plenty of small business trading from home that is again illegal.
l'm old enough to remember when the shows first came about and back then they were breeders meetings in the true sense and yes we had business involved as well.but they morphed into something else and l do not believe we our being honest with ourselves with regard to our shows as they currently stand,
l know that this post do not relate to this but l'm answering the above reply
Steven

I think bearing in mind the recent troubles and the lengths the IHS had to go to for saving our shows we should speak hypothetically. ie not what you saw at shows and who but more what ifs and hows like the OP.

As Scott has said, if you have any issues at shows you should contact the show organisers AT the time. If you cannot find them write them an email or call immediately after the show to ensure that things can be sorted.

All done before shows and after, the trouble is some people refuse to look at this objectively, their to close to the problems and to ingrained with the current status quo
