Default PC world tried to con me.

The other week I powered down my PC as normal then went to watch TV. I then noticed that the fans on my PC were still running. My PC was on but with no picture to the monitor. I shut the PC down then restarted it again with no picture. I had exactly the same problem 9 months ago so I knew it was my graphics card that had broke. The next day I took it to PC world and asked them to check my graphics card. The man kept saying it's the mother board that's broke but I kept asking please can they check my graphics card as it's doing exactly what it did 9 months ago. After an hour I was told it definitely is the mother board and it will cost 130 plus 60 to fit it. I said no and asked for it to be booked in to check the graphics card as I still believed this was the problem. the PC was booked in to be repaired on Tuesday 27th. I phoned in the morning and asked if they've checked the graphics card. I was told that on all the paper work that they had there was no mention Of the graphics card but said it was a broken mother board. I insisted they check the graphics card then ring me back with the results. 10 minutes later I got a call saying it was the graphics card and it will be changed and fitted for nothing as it was under warranty. When I picked my PC up today a lad said that they would've blamed the problem on the mother board, replaced it for 130 plus 60 to fit it then said that the mother board had blown the graphics card that the warranty wouldn't have covered then charge me 169.99 for a new graphics card. If I didn't keep on about the graphics card and listened to them I might have stupidly paid out 359.99.

Customers are usually right! Bloody con artists! You should take them to the paper! Let people hear it so as they can't do it to some other poor sod!

I hate being without my PC. PC world did try the same thing 9 months ago. My screen was blank with exclamation marks scattered around the screen. They said it was the motherboard but I searched some forums and found out it was a problem with the graphics card.

I don't know why people bother taking PC's in for repair. I just look up how to do it myself. simples.

Yes, that's a great way to void your guarantee, if the computer is still covered under it....

100% this. Or I speak to some techy mates who tell me how or pop over and sort it for me in exchange for a cuppa.

Generally, people that attempt to fix PCs themselves wont have things like computer warrenties because they build and upgrade the PCs themselves

True that, but I would never advise somebody who still has a warrenty to fix a problem with the tower theirselves..........


I'm going to start building my own computers before long..........It's how you get better systems!

i use a wee shop near me. my old laptop had been in that often for repairs me and the guy were on first name terms. but he tends to fix things quite cheap, as he says they dont cost that much to fix in the first place and he refuses to 'DO' his customers. this ones under warranty, so i take it it would go back to the makers??
