I find this quite staggering and really bring’s into perspective the actual figure of one billion.
The next time you hear a politician use the word 'billion' in a casual manner, think about whether you want the 'politicians' spending YOUR tax money. A billion is a difficult number to comprehend, but one advertising agency did a good job of putting that figure into some perspective in one of its releases. A. - A billion seconds ago it was 1959. B. - A billion minutes ago Jesus (according to some) was alive. C. - A billion hours ago our ancestors were living in the Stone Age. D. - A billion days ago no-one walked on the earth on two feet. E. - A billion Pounds ago was only 13 hours and 12 minutes, at the rate our government is spending it. Stamp Duty Tobacco Tax Corporate Income Tax Income Tax Council Tax Unemployment Tax Fishing License Tax Petrol/Diesel Tax Inheritance Tax Alcohol Tax V.A.T. Marriage License Tax Property Tax Service charge taxes Social Security Tax Vehicle License Registration Tax Vehicle Sales Tax Workers Compensation Tax Not one of these taxes existed 100 years ago and our nation was one of the most prosperous in the world. We had absolutely no national debt. We had the largest middle class in the world and Mum stayed home to raise the kids. What happened? Can you spell 'politicians?'

We have had to introduce all those taxes to cover the moronic spending of Labour governments...

Without doubt spending is out of control, the principles of national health and welfare are spot on, it's just managment of it all that's ruined it.
£126 Billion on health care £116 Billion on welfare My biggest gripe is the shear waste and over spend on everything any government does. What would cost the private sector £1 million would end up costing the government sector twice as much. There is no effort or requirement to get the best deal or even 'haggle'. It's not their money and it's not their business, they just spend it like it's on tap. Labour have always been the worst at this, they spend like mad and many shortsighted people love it. The country goes to shit and it's always been a Conservative governement that then has to pick up the pieces and do the hard and unpopular work of getting things on track again. They then get punished at the elections (due to spending cuts etc) and Labour come back in a screw everything up again It's a circle that's gone on for ages!
