A standard car would do that though if you sprayed petrol over the engine like in this instance. I remember taking some temps on my engine with a TN1, as I was making a cold air feed for the filter, and it maxed it out at 110C, so therefore would have been much hotter in reality.

Of course, there is no doubt about that, but, the fuel was not directly on the engine, it was under it. The amount of heat radiating from the engine is incredible.

It looked to me that the fuel sprayed all over the car and then ignited from behind, which in turn ignited the trail as he drove over it. And of course the engine is pumping crazy heat out, no one is denying that.

EDIT: He got fuel in his eyes so obviously it didn't just go under the car.

The fuel sprayed all over the hot exhaust, the same would happen your family sedan to be fair.

Slightly off topic...

It's a shame the marshalls, etc didn't have nomex clothing back in the 70's (they dressed in normal clothes) otherwise the outcome of this would have been very different. A crying shame...RIP.
