Just wanted to share a story, feel free to laugh or cry or shrug your shoulders.

My Dad had a stroke a couple of months ago, his second one, he's fine, and I feel lucky to have him still around, there by the grace of <insert relevant deity> go we.

My Dad has a blood pressure monitor, this morning it told him he was about to die. He felt like it, so called the people that sort out dying people. Paramedic and an ambulance in less time than it takes to make a cuppa. Anyway turns out the monitor was faulty and the panic and stress of it nearly killed him, I love the NHS, but some days I wonder why...death by a bloody blood pressure monitor, oh the irony.

Home pressure monitors need banning IMO, they can give consistently false results, the cuffs they have rarely give the correct pressure, thus leading to a false result.

It is possible to buy one used by the nhs, il dig out suppliers if you like

I kinda have to make a change to the story, just had a chat with him. and my Dad would like me to point out it was a Lloyds Pharmacy BPU(spot on Amie can't argue with you there!), not one supplied by the NHS, he's been given a better one and is very pleased with the results, appears his BP has been reading high for a while due to the crap machine and it may even have forced him to try harder to get his BP down!

If you are all now crying foul play, and that I jumped to an assumption(which I know you're not) you kinda need to understand why.... my Mum went to the doctor for a bad back, got given a few anti-inflammatory drugs and sent home, about 6 months later 3 vertebrae collapsed and she later died from bone cancer. Tough luck I guess, just should have had a better doctor who bothered to read her case history of metastatic breast cancer

I kinda don't trust 'em. So the irony of the BPU nearly killing my Dad was just a bit too much.

But I'm not bitter, everyone I've ever come into contact with in the NHS through having things stitched up or taken out have been amazing, and the level of care all my family have received over the years has been compassionate and genuine, and I think each and every health professional deserves a medal. I don't have any issues with the NHS, I think it is something truly British to be proud of, it just doesn't always go to plan.
Meh, life's shit and then you die, I just choose to make mine better with serpents and a few good friends.

I feel bad about making an empty threat towards you recently, I just have a little bit of pent up aggression that rears its ugly head from time to time, reminds me I'm human. I honestly hope the things people say about your attitude to your mum are just malicious rumors, I can't see any way, anyone would be disrespectful to someone who clothes, feeds, and shows you unconditional love(most people appear to loath the very air you breathe). If she doesn't and you don't like it then move out, you are a grown man, act like one. Parasite.

My Sisters Husbands' Granny had just got a new blood pressure monitor last time I was over in Germany.... we all tried it out.... it was strapped on my wrist and they just looked at me and said "you have no pulse, therefore you must be dead".......

Naw... I just have a slow, reptilian pulse....
